In preparation to complete the California State University and the University of California applications, Nogales’ counselors set up multiple workshops for the ambitious Nobles who want to attend college.
The final due date for both applications was on November 30, 2017 at 11:59 P.M.
With a total of five workshops, including one on a Sunday, the Counseling team helped the senior class tremendously with meeting these deadlines.
According to Sara Hall, a counselor, ¨We have never had that many workshops. I feel like we offered the [seniors] good services… I’m just worried about those who didn’t stop by. We hope they at least have a plan in mind¨
Unfortunately, not every senior who wanted to apply took advantage of the workshops. A multitude of students decided to apply on the last day rather than taking advantage of the entire month of November.
The new application system created a few hiccups but devoted counselors and motivated students trudged along. Kristina Bergslien, a counselor, stated that the college application process, ¨went pretty well. We had a lot of students come. One of the sets backs was that we had a new system this year. It was a learning curve for us… it [CalState Apply] was different everyday.¨
Overall, the application process went very smoothly for most seniors. The counselors hope that upcoming seniors will take more advantage of their time to apply sooner rather than procrastinating. Their ultimate goal is to have juniors this year well informed about the A-G requirements as well as have them take the SATs.
The counseling team plans to host more assemblies and spend more one-on-one time with students to ensure that they have all the information that they need to apply successfully.
