Last month, the Junior Varsity and Varsity girls basketball played against Azusa and Gladstone High School.
On Wednesday, January 24, the Junior Varsity girls had a close game against Azusa.

They were able to hold a lead in the beginning of the first half. Unfortunately they fell behind in the second half, ending the game with the score of 28-30.

The crowd was hoping the game was going to be forced into overtime, but Azusa maintained their lead.

However, after the Junior Varsity game, the Varsity team was able to score a win once again Nogales dominated the first half, against Azusa with a score of 26-9.

By the end of regulation, the Nogales Varsity team took the victory with the score of 59-28.
Later that week, on Friday, January 26, both Junior Varsity and Varsity girls, played against Gladstone High School at home and both teams were able to blow out Gladstone and take the victory.

The Junior Varsity and Varsity team then prepared themselves by fixing their mistakes from previous games, pushing themselves to go past their limits.

Varsity player, Kayci Hirakawa, Junior, was unstoppable by scoring 18 points and adding on 3 assists. She stated, ” I felt pretty proud of myself after I found out I scored 18 points.”

Varsity player Samantha San Anthonio, Senior, was proud of the team’s victory: “ I felt pretty confident about the game and happy that we won”.

These hard working girls are hoping to win all of the next few games as they continue to practice hard and play well.
