On September 30, 2018, Kanye West stated: “This represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in america and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment.”

As the 13th amendment states: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction…”

Senior Arlyn Valles asserts that the message is in someway desensitized and ignores those who are not “free from prisons.” Valles expressed “ There is a very bad connection behind his words. The jobs that are created not include those who aren’t American. Overall I think his word choice is poor and leads me to having a negative opinion of him.”

Freshman, Ivory Ramirez, agrees with his message: “People who become free from jail should be able to support themselves and possibly help their family.”

Another student opposes the statement as well. Freshman, Kyle Perez, disagrees with Kanye West’s tweet: “Kanye has no voice or importance to speak on this topic.”

Freshman, Esmeralda Ortega, claimed,  “I believe that people who have been convicted of a crime and are released deserve a second chance.”

Freshman, Roxan Zamorano, believes Kanye has no business tweeting about politics: “He has no place nor importance talking about what our country needs or does. Kanye West should not let the idea of having a large platform get to his head and just says whatever he wants.”

The Final Student, Freshman, Ben Cruz, insists, “Outsourcing to other countries makes items cheaper and helps our country. Also I feel that Kanye West says too much and is very selfish.”
