The greatest moments and events of 2018

The year of 2018 had many unforgettable moments and events that captivated the world’s attention. From the sports world to entertainment, 2018 has had its fair share of headlines that will be engraved in history.

In world news, one of the biggests events occured on May 19 when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became Duke and Duchess of Sussex after marrying in Windsor Castle. The early time of the wedding did not bother people around America as millions tuned in to watch the royal wedding. This event made history as it was the first time a person of mixed race married with a member of British royalty.

In sports, one of the biggest headlines this year was when basketball superstar, LeBron James opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for a 4 year deal worth 154 million dollars.

With LeBron’s arrival at Los Angeles he has expressed his desire to win big : “The goal is to always win a championship. That is the goal, but us as a young team and only recently coming together, we have to continue to get better every day. We have to work championship habits every day.With this new acquisition and other exceptional players like Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, and Brandon Ingram, the Lakers will certainly be a playoff contender.

Another sporting event that captured everyones attention during the first months of the year were the 2018 Winter Olympics hosted in South Korean city, Pyeongchang, where young American teens such as Chloe Kim and Red Gerard took the gold and this event was specifically special, because the world witnessed both the North and South Korea olympic teams walking together under one flag during the opening and closing ceremonies.

In the world of entertainment, one of the biggest films of the year was Black Panther. The movie, which was released in February 16, 2018, received lots of acclamation after including a predominant black cast, a great soundtrack and a screenplay that was enjoyed by experts and critics. The film grossed around 1.3 billion dollars around the world resulting in being the second highest grossing film of all time worldwide.
