On Tuesday October 22, the Nogales Girls’ Tennis Team went head to head against Gladstone High School and won by a score of 11-7. This match would conclude the girls season this year. Prior to this match, the girls had 3 pre-season games to get ready for their 10 league match season.

The new coach, Mr. Malignaggi (or GiGi as the girls call him), has helped the girls tremendously and brought them together as a team. Bryanna Castillo, senior player, shared how much she enjoyed the new coach: “Gigi has been an amazing coach. This season would have definitely not been the same without him.”

The players devoted much of their time preparing for this season, starting their practice as early as the summer. The long and tiring hours of training really proved to be worth it in the end. The team really showed off their skills when they beat high schools such as Workman, Azusa and Gladstone.

They are currently placed 3rd in the league. Even though it was an unpredictable season, they managed to win their way into CIF. Kaitlyn Vargas, a senior player, thrilled for their winning status, expressed, “I am super excited for CIF this year, and since it is my last year, this was a great way to end the season.”

This last match was also Senior Night for the team. Senior, Kimberly Avalos, will remember her team fondly: “I was quite sad when I realized that this will be the last time I will be playing for Nogales. However, these last 4 years with the team were memorable and I will never forget them.”

Although it was the last match of the season, the girls still have CIF, which started early November.
