Fans of the video game,  Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, know that a mysterious event known as the “Great Calamity” plunged Hyrule into an era of darkness and annihilated its chosen heroes.

On September 8, 2020, Nintendo’s producer, Eiji Aonuma, dropped an announcement trailer for their latest game known as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a prequel to one of Nintendo’s best sellers since its release, Breath of the Wild. Featuring hack-and-slash gameplay and breathtaking cut-scenes, players can experience the untold story against the “Great Calamity” that knocked Hyrule onto its knees, 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild.

Shortly after the announcement trailer’s debut, the official trailer was aired on September 26th. According to Cesar Ramirez, “…everyone went crazy while watching the trailer.” The official trailer properly introduces us to all of the characters who will join Link, the main character of the game, on this brand new adventure, including the Champions, Mipha, Daruk, Urbosa and Revali, four skilled individuals selected by the Royal Family who lost their lives on the field of battle.

Simultaneously, we were also given a sneak peek of numerous combat scenarios along with the individual strengths of each Champion, which according to Collider, makes it “… far more action-packed than its announcement trailer predecessor”.

Furthermore, an additional 13 minutes of gameplay footage was unveiled at the 2020 Tokyo Games Show- revealing Link’s and Impa’s fighting styles along with combat mechanics, enemy types and cut-scenes. We also got to have a look at how each Champion fights, including the various strategies and methods each character can use to defeat their enemies. However, with all these sneak peeks, people are starting to get worried about its release date.

Luckily for us, the announcement trailer confirmed that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be released later this year on November 20th. If you decide to pre-order the game, you will receive two special items, Lucky Ladle and Pot Lid; if you have saved data from Breath of the Wild, you will receive one item, the Training Sword.
