On Sunday, October 11, 2020, the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA championship against the Miami Heat.

The NBA finals are a series of 7 games in which a team needs to win at least 4 four games to win the championship. This series went up to 6 games.

The Los Angeles Lakers were able to win games 1 and 2. The Miami Heat took games 3 and 5, but the Lakers were victorious in games 4 and 6, making them the champions.

This year’s win meant a lot to the Lakers. Not only did they win the franchise’s 17th title, but they also did it for Kobe Bryant, a Laker legend who sadly passed away this year along with his daughter, Gianna Bryant, in a helicopter accident.

Laker Anthony Davis shared his thoughts about the significance of this title: “For Kobe, I know he’s looking down on us super proud. Before the tragedy, he would come to the game and just tell us, ‘This is y’all year. Go out and take it.’” The Lakers kept the “Mamba Mentality” and were able to win the championship and make him proud.

This was Lebron James’s fourth championship as an NBA player but he was certainly proud of this achievement: “For me to be a part of such a historical franchise is an unbelievable feeling, not only for myself but for my teammates, for the organization, for the coaches, for the trainers, everybody that’s here.”

The Los Angeles Lakers now have 17 championship trophies. The last year the Lakers won the NBA championship was in 2010. Now, in 2020, they have done it again and Laker fans couldn’t be any happier.
