COVID-friendly Holiday Events

Alexandra German, Freshman

The holidays are now here and due to the pandemic, it may seem difficult to celebrate. Thankfully, many attractions will be open in Southern California to keep up the festivities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has postponed numerous events, and it has caused many unexpected changes this year. However, holiday events will still be held to cheer people up and get them into the festive holiday spirit.

For people that love to go out and spend time with family and friends, there will be Christmas lights and parades this year.

This holiday season, there will be a Christmas themed drive-thru hosted at the Pomona Fairplex from November 6 to December 30, 2020. This magical holiday journey is called The Elf on the Shelf

Vehicles will be moving through the dazzling elf-sized world and there will be gingerbread houses, workshops, and holiday music playing. Everyone in their vehicle must have a ticket which is available for purchase online, except for children under 2 years old.

Updates on this event are posted on Instagram, @magicalelfjourney. Many families have shared the fun they have experienced there and their Instagram. Kristin tagged the account Magical Holiday Journey mentioning, “ [I] Took the boys to #elfontheshelfjourney and had a great time, a really cute drive-thru experience for the family to enjoy.”

Newport Beach is hosting a boat parade. The 2020 Boat Parade will last from Wednesday, December 16, 2020, through Sunday, December 20, 2020.

The boats will be decorated with colorful lights and they will be traveling through the bay so everyone can see this wonderful spectacle. If you want to have an even greater experience, you can reserve your tickets through Newport landing.

Regardless of how you spend your holidays, you should remember to be safe, maintain a safe distance, wear your mask at all times, and have some holiday fun.
