On November 3rd, 2020, Lana Del Rey took to Instagram Live on a Tuesday night to announce that her seventh studio album is already finished. However, the release date wasn delayed until the spring of 2021. Without giving too many details, Lana described the sound of her upcoming album as “folky” and “super different from Norman”.
Suddenly, on January 10th, 2021, Del Rey uploaded to Instagram three pictures announcing the title of her new album, Chemtrails over the Country Club, as well as including the tracklist with it. The following day, Del Rey released two music videos for two of the songs titled “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” and “Let Me Love You Like a Woman.”
After her sixth studio album, “Norman F******g Rockwell!” earned Del Rey two Grammy nominations in 2020 for Best Album of the Year and Best Song of the Year, her total Grammy nominations now add up to five. Rockwell also received widespread acclaim from music critics and became Lana Del Rey’s most critically acclaimed studio album in her career to date.
Having been dubbed as the “Queen of Alternative music”, fans of Del Rey have been yearning to hear her ethereal lullabies and croaks in new music. Producer Jack Antonoff announced that he also produced Del Reys’ upcoming album which only excited fans furthermore knowing that Antonoff also produced Rockwell.
Her single, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”, sticks to Del Reys’ classic dreamy love song sound that has always been apparent in her music throughout her career. She stated that the single “…mentions wanting so much to be normal and realizing that when you have an overactive, eccentric mind, a record like Chemtrails is just what you’re going to get.”
Del Rey continues living out her retro fantasy that she often talks about, depicting this in her recent music videos. As of now, the album is set to release on March 19th, 2021 by Interscope Records and Polydor Records.
