Girls JV basketball Team Stumbles Against Ontario

Morelia Razo, Freshman

On December 7, 2021, the Nogales girls JV basketball team faced Ontario High at home, where they unfortunately fell in the defeat column.

From the start, the noble lineup was being dominated. By the end of the first 2 quarters, they were trailing with a score of 4-21. The deficit remained for the latter portion of the game and our girls ultimately lost with a 13-49 final score.

Freshman basketball player, Laila Gallardo, debriefs after the loss: “Overall, I am not satisfied with how the game proceeded, however; we played our hearts out. We put in our full effort and at the end of the day, as long as we play as a family that is what matters.”

Gallardo also highlights the importance of teamwork when facing difficult results. “Playing any sport involves communication and team spirit. The key to enjoying the games is to encourage each other even when there are successful or negative moments.”

Gallardo mentions how coach Jaime Felix, also known as “coach J,” maintained a calm demeanor as she coached the team through the tough match.

Despite the lopsided result, the basketball team gained experience from this game. They showed noble spirit by putting in effort and being motivated to grow. Hopefully, the girls can analyze their errors and sharpen their skills for the next scheduled games.
