On February 2nd, the Seniors in the boys’ soccer team celebrated their senior night, honoring the last home game of the regular season. That same night, the game against Sierra Vista High School ended in an upsetting loss with a final score of 2-0.
Rene Martinez, a senior soccer player, shared his feelings in regards to his last home soccer game: “After being on the team since freshman year, it feels as if this last home game arrived too soon. Despite this being my last home game, these four years have been special.”
Given that Sierra Vista and Nogales clash head-to-head in the league standings for varsity soccer, Sierra Vista is considered a major rival for the boys.
The first half saw Sierra Vista open up the score with a goal, pressuring the Nobles to complete the always tough task of a comeback. Unfortunately, the second half witnessed the away team expand on their lead with a distant free-kick that sailed past Nogales defenders and goalkeeper.
Senior, Aidan Oropeza, discussed the negative results of the games. “It was not the result we wanted, but I know the soccer boys come out on the field and give it their all.”
Beyond the humbling loss in the pitch, seniors were recognized and appreciated for their hard work. Even though this game did not end as expected, the boys surely showed off all their skills on the field at home for one last time.
