On the 13th of February, the 56th edition of the NFL Championship game, Super Bowl XVI, took place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Millions of viewers saw the Los Angeles Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals with a 23-20 score.
With a throw from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, Odell Beckham Jr. scored the first touchdown of the game. A Cooper Kupp touchdown reception extended the lead of the Los Angeles team by two scores.
In the latter minutes of the second quarter, the Bengals cut the Rams’ lead to just 3 points, with an unconventional touchdown that surprised the secondary line of the defending team.
The Super Bowl halftime show, which followed the conclusion of the first half, featured performances by music artists Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige and Dr. Dre. Senior, Enrique Arellano, a fan of the NFL said, “This was the best halftime show I have ever seen.”
The Bengals began the second half by immediately scoring a touchdown in the first twelve seconds. Following that, the Bengals defense got an interception which led to a field goal. From there, the offensive efforts of each team stalled, with the defenses from both teams putting on a show.
With less than two minutes left in the game, the Rams were able to put up an efficient drive down the field that culminated in a Cooper Kupp touchdown, giving them the lead with a score of 23-20. The Bengals were not able to get within field goal range to tie the game within the last minute, leading to their defeat.
After the game, Cooper Kupp was awarded the Super Bowl MVP trophy, as he put up a solid amount of yards, capped off by his title-winning touchdown reception.
People all over Southern California celebrated as the local team won and can now claim that Los Angeles houses the best team in the NFL.
